Partial and Static Suspension
Ready to take your self-tying skills into the air? This is the class for you!
This self-tying rope bondage class is perfect for those who have experience self-tying on the ground and are wanting to learn the basics of self-suspension. This course is the second of a three-part self-tying/suspension series that will take you from never having touched rope before to dynamic self-suspension in the air within 12 weeks. The focus of this class will be partial and static self-suspensions.
In this class, you will learn:
- Self suspension safety and risk mitigation
- Suspension hardware
- Suspension hangers and upline lock-offs
- Load line management
- Self-suspension spotter skills
- Partial suspension
- Static suspensions
- New harnesses along the way
This class is intended for those who have completed the Self Tying 1 course. Students may test into the Self-Tying course if they can show proficiency in tying single columns, double columns, a suspendable chest harness, and a suspendable hip harness. You must provide your own rope
Approx 5 30' lengths and 2 15' lengths of rope for harnesses (can be natural or synthetic)
3-4 30' lengths of ropes for uplines (must be synthetic)
Hardware for suspending, such as carabiners, a rigging plate, a ring, etc.
Cutting implement, such as safety sheers

Marilyn (she/her, fet: _Marilyn_)
Marilyn first entered the Denver rope community in 2019. After finishing the partnered curriculum in March 2020 (literally the Wednesday before Denver shut down!), Marilyn began self-tying as a way to maintain her rope skills. She quickly fell in love with the playful, energetic, and dynamic nature of it! She is happy to be back in Denver and to be exploring all that rope has to offer again, whether that's tying others, tying herself, or letting others tie her sometimes too.
Marilyn identifies as a queer, polyamorous, kinky switch. She's passionate about relationship anarchy, arguing the semantics of language, and the value of building connections. She's excited to be engaging with the Denver rope community in a new, bigger way through teaching and curriculum development.
Kennedy Be Mine (they/them, she/her)
Kennedy is queer, kinky and an avid self-suspender! Kennedy took her first rope class at studio friction in 2022 and has been tying ever since. They especially enjoy blending nerdy cosplay with shibari and loves the way rope can make every, body feel amazing.
ElleFang (she/they, fet: ElleFang)
Elle is an avid self suspender, who also rope tops, rope bottoms, and switches it up in a number of other kinky adventures. Her rope journey started in Austin, TX, in 2019, transitioned online in 2020, and has been flourishing in Denver since she moved to Colorado in 2023. While she enjoys rope through many perspectives, self-tying remains the heart of her practice. Over the years, rope has become a language through which she explores somatic bodywork, meditation, creative expression, and unapologetically indulges both her inner thrill seeker and the masochist within.
With a passion for building community, Elle loves creating safe spaces where people can discover new parts of themselves, trust their own capabilities, and leave feeling a little more connected to their bodies, their creativity, and one another. She is excited to fostering community through friendship, education, and the joyful process of learning alongside others.
Randy (He/Him)
For Randy, rope is a versatile tool for accomplishing and communicating what might otherwise be impossible. He loves movement, challenge, and the connection that rope can bring with others and with oneself. A long-time rope bottom, and dedicated self-tier since 2022, Randy is fascinated by the mechanics and meaning of rope. His teaching focuses on concepts and fundamentals, building a shared foundation for exploring creative applications together.
Important Information:
- It is your responsibility to attend each class session. Course curriculum is typically sequential. Course instructors are not responsible for offering make-up classes or catching students up on missed material. (Note that some instructors will offer private lessons for missed classes.)
- Be on time for class. Instructors are not responsible for waiting for late attendees.

- Bring a photo ID that matches the Last Name listed in your online registration for admittance.

Studio Friction Curriculum Grants
To minimize the inequities and financial barriers to rope bondage education, and to increase engagement and participation of a diversity of participants, Studio Friction is able to offer one Tuition Grant per 3-course succession of Self-Tying. This is a 3 course, 3 month series with the goal to educate students from their very first single column knot to their first suspension.
A Wrapped membership - providing discounted access to other Studio Friction events - is included for all grantees. This is a limited opportunity of 6 to 10 grants per year based on Studio Friction curriculum program scheduling availability.
