Ready to get unbuttoned? This class explores how to use clothing, alongside rope, to play with themes of objectification, exposure, fetishization, power, and plain ol' hotness.

You'll learn how to twist, tie, and manipulate garments to enhance your rope scenes, contributing to both the visual impact and the psychological tone, rather than getting in the way. This class is open to all levels but a basic knowledge of a single-column tie is required. Demonstrations will include play on the floor, but students are welcomed to utilize suspension lines in playtime if they have previous experience.

Taught by Brooklyn and Hatman_Jack, this class draws from our lived experiences as rope partners navigating dynamics of beauty, control, and desire. We'll share what makes objectification hot for us, and invite you to explore what it means for you and your partner.

This class explicitly focuses on play strategies, so please attend with a partner you are comfortable exploring emotional and physical play with. Pairs should bring several clothing items that can be disheveled, pulled apart, unbuttoned, or partially removed.

What you'll learn:

How to use clothing to enhance rope scenes--through exposure, disfigurement, and aesthetic framing. Techniques for wrapping, unbuttoning, and undressing in ways that feel deliberate and charged. Strategies for curating scenes of observation and emotional intensity. How to create objectifying play that is hot, connected, and consensual.

What to expect:

This is a play-focused class with structured discussion, demo, and guided lab time. We'll begin by exploring why we eroticize objectification, what turns us on about beauty, power, and unraveling. Then we'll move into a demo and your own practice, showing how rope can interact with clothing to create deliciously messy, emotionally layered scenes.

We will close with time to reflect on what you've discovered, both physically and emotionally.

You'll have the chance to:

  • Talk with your partner about what objectification means to you
  • Experiment with rope and garments to expose, restrict, or deconstruct
  • Observe and practice techniques for clothing removal and redressing
  • Share your experience in a facilitated closing circle

Things to bring:

  • At least three hanks of rope (7 or 8m)
  • Cutting tool
  • Clothing you are willing to get messy; think buttons, slits, stretchy and flowy material, or pieces you are excited to manipulate
  • A partner you are comfortable exploring emotionally and physically with (this is not a casual practice class)

Prerequisites:

Top prerequisites: Any single column tie and a knowledge of safety and risk in rope. Bottom prerequisites: confident in-rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope, confident ability to monitor and communicate signs of nerve compression.

All participants must have a shared understanding of negotiations, consent, and safety. Clarity on boundaries around touch, exposure, and manipulation, and aftercare needs.

*Optional* If using suspension point, prior experience with upline management and hardware.

About the Instructors:

Brooklyn (They/Them)

Brooklyn is a Chicago-based rope switch and educator with experience on both the top and bottom sides of the slash. Their work focuses on the intersection of emotions, technical proficiency, and aesthetics. This curiosity has driven them to seek ongoing formal eduction, studying with a variety of teachers across Europe and the United States, primarily in Naka-inspired semenawa. They aim to offer high-quality instruction on the functional aspects of rope while encouraging students to explore the deeper emotional and psychological motivations behind their practice. Brooklyn believes that fully experiencing rope requires both hard and soft tying skills. Their teaching approach blends technical precision with personal exploration, inspiring students to remain curious and approach rope in a less dogmatic, more individual way. Brooklyn teaches private lessons in their rope space and has taught classes at Sakura Studios in Chicago, including co-organizing and teaching at the Tying Masc Bodies conference in November 2025.

Hatman_Jack (He/Him)

Hatman_Jack fell in love with rope as a means of emotional connection, vulnerability, exposure, pain, and the rediscovering of oneself. After years of flirtation with bondage, he began regularly suspension-bottoming in 2021, and shortly after that he began tying others. When connecting with someone for rope, he strives to prioritize the person through consent and communication. He has demo bottomed for classes at RopeCraft, and SummerCamp, participated in rope-bottoming roundtables in Durham, performed at Kakumei Kan Studio in Finland, and teaches beginner rope through Kink Practice in North Carolina. When not doing rope, he loves exploring nature, growing too many plants, playing board games and ttrpgs, learning languages, cooking elaborate meals, and practicing aerial and ground arts.
