This two day progressive workshop will build a solid foundation in hashira shibari and explore several sexy, restrictive, and challenging shapes. We present different approaches to creating anchor points enabling tight and compressive connection to the column, as well as connections that enable body-wrapping around the column. We will introduce the core principles of hashira shibari through the playful and sexy partial suspension forms, and delve deeper into the intensity of the practice through the introduction of full suspended hashira forms.
Required Prerequisites & Equipment
- Tops - advanced experience with suspension managing multiple
uplines.
- For bottoms - experience in restrictive bondage and
suspension.
- 10-12 6mm jute ropes. Safety kit including a safe cutting instrument.
About the Instructors:
Jacques LeBouc (he/him) has been in love with rope since buying his first hanks of rope in 2012. In the five years that followed, he continued his exploration. But, it was only after meeting his wife and partner, Aven, that his love for the discipline turned to utter fascination. For Jacques, Kinbaku and Semenawa embody creativity, beauty, deep connection, lust, and playfulness. On his continuing rope journey, Jacques seeks out every opportunity to learn from wonderfully talented rope teachers around the world.
Aven (she/her) was introduced to rope by Jacques in early 2018. She was captivated by its demand for discipline, and its potential as a figurative art. After a few years of general study, Aven has developed her own lines of inquiry and manners of expression that are unique in the craft.
As a figurative artist, the correlatives between emotion and pose are of particular interest. Whether by performance or rendering on a surface, she continues to explore the tension between the inner experience of the soul through the senses of the body.
