Being a hinge partner in nonmonogamous relationships is no small feat—it’s a juggling act of meeting partners’ needs, managing life’s demands, and carving out time for yourself. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by this role, you’re not alone.

This workshop dives into the unique challenges hinge partners face, based on insights from therapists who work with nonmonogamous clients. Through reflective exercises and guided discussions, you’ll explore how these dynamics affect your relationships and personal well-being.

But it’s not just about identifying struggles—it’s about solutions. We’ll share practical tools and therapist-recommended strategies to help you navigate these challenges with greater ease and confidence. By the end, you’ll have a clearer path toward balance, connection, and a deeper sense of self-assurance in your hinge role.

Your Presenters:

Lindsay Hayes (she/her)

Lindsay holds an MA in communication and an MA in Couple and Family Therapy. Her Master’s thesis was a narrative inquiry on the lived experience of being in a polycule (network of polyamorous adults). She is currently a student in the PhD in Counseling Studies program at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland (by distance) where she continues to study ethical nonmonogamy. Lindsay practices therapy part-time at Legacy Trails Therapy and lives in Denver.

Caroline Lee (she/her)

Caroline is a therapist in Colorado specializing in trauma therapy and sex therapy. Her specialties include working with the kink community and the ENM community, as well as sexual trauma and religious trauma. Caroline is passionate about destigmatizing the taboo, filling in the gaps, and meeting people where they are in their journey. With her clients, she incorporates humor, authenticity and nerdiness. Caroline is also an independent researcher and has ongoing research in the demographics of cuckqueans, the hinge partner in polyamory, grieving the life you're living as a cancer patient, and addressing erotic countertransference.
